Meet Carla: Our New Productivity Wolverine
As our company name and icon suggests, we like to dream up hybrid animals that evolve more rapidly to meet the demands of their changing environments. It's therefore quite fitting that our newest team member, Carla, is a bit of a hybrid as well. Originally from Australia, she migrated to the States with her American hubby, first to the East Coast, and recently, out here to the West where we scooped her up. In addition to her multi-nationality, she's also a mixed breed of equal parts designer, event planner, productivity obsessive, and bringer of joy. So she'll fit in quite nicely here.
To properly introduce her to you, the World, we've asked a few questions that we're sure you're dying to ask. If we missed something, please feel free to use our social media and ask her a question of your own. And now, without further adieu, World, meet Carla.
When did you know you wanted to be a designer and what influenced your decision?
I have always been a designer from the day I was born. I come from a long line of creatives (from musicians, textile designers & architects.) One of my earliest childhood memories is drawing up plans for restaurant/cafe that my best friend & I would own when we retired. I thought about every detail from the furniture and paint colors through to the napkin design, signage & uniform fabric. Not the usual imagination for an 8 year old.
Who are your favorite designers and what do you like about their work?
Like most designers I appreciate the graphic-designer greats. They have made our careers possible & I respect them in so many ways. That being said I thrive off the current generation of creators. Not just graphic designers, but photographers, interior designers, architects, fashion designers & artists. I take influences from so many areas. Here are just a few of my favorites creators I'm admiring right now:
Anna Spiro | Interior Designer
I love her talent for combining different patterns & textures that you wouldn’t usually see together, and her way of giving life to antiques;Dominique Wright | Artist & fashion designer
Artwork - Flawd Art: I adore how she uses a range of backgrounds for her work from old skateboards to wood off-cuts. She makes things beautiful that would otherwise been thrown in the trash!
Fashion Label - Kahlo Kahlo: I love how she combine's a travelled gypsy look with classic elements and textures;Braziden | Graphic Design Firm for Creatives
I love everything this team produces. They have such a huge talent for branding. I especially love how they can tackle any style & give any brand personality.
If you had to pick 3 foods to eat every day, what would they be?
Easy! Tacos, Classic Margaritas & Candy.
If you could take a vacation anywhere, where would you go and what would you do?
Could you ask me a harder question....So many places to go, not enough time! I love tropical vacations. There is something about the sun, sand & surf that makes my heart skip a beat. I've been dying to hit up Cuba, Hawaii, Brazil & see more of Mexico. That being said I'm also dying to go to Europe and Africa to visit Morocco, France & Italy. When I travel anywhere I love to emerge myself in the culture and get to know the locals, eat the local food and buy local art/fabrics that I can take home. Having said that, I would do it all in complete luxury and in fashionable style.
What is your spirit animal?
It would be a combination of a dolphin and a wolf. Both pack animals and adventurers that love to have fun!
What book should everyone read?
Forget books, blogs is where it's at!
I do however love books that you can learn something from, are inspiring, and they all must look pretty on my coffee table. Is is possible to have it all?
Here are just few books you can find on my coffee table:
Curvy (creative women, inspiring other creative women)
Puffin Children’s Classics Set (Channeling my inner child)
How much wood, would a woodchuck chuck, if a woodchuck could chuck wood?
Too much!
Drop a wisdom bomb on us.
I have few words for wisdom from some greats:
Don’t waste time looking for your style. The truth is you already have it, you just need to create more in order to find it.

The only thing standing between greatness and you… is you!
- Woody Allen
You can be the ripest, juiciest peach in the world and there’s still going to be someone who hates peaches!
