Land Acknowledgment

As part of our 10 year anniversary celebration, we’re hosting a party in our Seattle office (and you’re obviously invited, get your free ticket here). But as we welcome you into our office, we would like to acknowledge that the space we occupy is on ancestral Duwamish land. While our anniversary party is free, we welcome donations to Real Rent Duwamish, an organization that works to justly compensate the Duwamish Tribe for their land, resources, and livelihood.

Since we as a studio prioritize sustainability, we owe it to the original environmental stewards to support the restoration of their lands. Some projects that you can get involved in are the Duwamish River Cleanup Coalition and the Duwamish Alive! Coalition.

Furthermore, we encourage you to support local native-owned brands, artists, and businessowners. Here are just a few from the Greater Seattle area:

Food

Apparel + Accessories

Art

Know of any other businesses we should add? Send me an email at chloe@modernspecies.com and we’ll update our list!

[JUNE 25TH, 2019 EDIT  — The preferred land acknowledgment is as follows: We would like to acknowledge that we are on the traditional land of the first people of Seattle, the Duwamish People past and present and honor with gratitude the land itself and the Duwamish Tribe.]
