Sustainability Stories :: Part Three
"It’s easy to become less thoughtful about our consumption, but we can intentionally support local communities or larger companies that are committed to positive impact."
As part of our 10 year anniversary celebration, we’re sharing our Sustainability Stories, where each of our team members explains a little more about their passion for sustainability. Read Part One here and Part Two here.

When + why did you decide to start living more sustainably?
Over the last few years I’ve made an effort to live more sustainably and responsibly as I make changes to reduce my footprint and waste. Growing up in the suburbs near Los Angeles, we didn’t spend a lot of time in the outdoors. I was pretty disconnected with the waste that we were creating and how it impacted the world. As I started to travel and experience the world, I began to see how global warming and climate change was affecting different regions. I began to notice how my indifference and need for newer and better was making more trash and how it negatively impacts various communities around the world.
It’s been a journey making these personal changes, but it’s also been a complex journey to understand how environmental justice is deeply woven into politics and culture. We need to be responsible for what we take from the Earth and what we put back.
What would you like people to know about sustainable living?
Sustainable living is about being intentional and responsible. As technology makes our life more convenient, it becomes easier and easier to click on our phones and have food, gadgets and even services show up at our doorstep. It’s easy to become less thoughtful about our consumption, but we can intentionally support local communities or larger companies that are committed to positive impact. Sustainability is multi-faceted and complex, but there’s a lot that we can do on an individual level that can help to drive bigger cultural change.
