Supporting the Green New Deal

As sustainability advocates, we’re always looking for new ways to live more mindfully with our individual choices. However, with the irreversibility of climate change looming closer and closer, we also need to take more drastic action. Because climate policies like Initiative 1631 have not yet passed in Washington, we, along with other members of the ASBC, support the breadth and vision of the Green New Deal.

Beyond promoting clean energy strategies, economic benefits, and infrastructural development, we love that the Green New Deal also focuses on environmental justice. For too long our governments have ignored the injustices disproportionately suffered by what the Green New Deal refers to as “frontline and vulnerable communities”. Supporting such a progressive and radical resolution will give us the opportunity to build a better future for us all.

Thanks to the leadership of Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Senator Ed Markey, and the passion of the Sunrise Movement, Zero Hour, Youth v. Gov, and Our Children’s Trust, and more, we look forward to what the Green New Deal will accomplish.
